Are you missing your beloved a little more today? Thinking how it would be wonderful to have a love life like other couples, meeting, seeing, and spending time with each other often?
I understand your feelings, my friend, but not every love story is meant to be the same, right?
When you grow old together, imagine how you will have stories to tell the younger generation. How you held onto each other through everything, how the distance made both of you go crazy in love, and how you overcame the difficulties to convert the then-long-distance relationship to a happily ever after. 💝
I’m sure you are smiling right now, thinking of the fantastic days ahead. But what about the present day? How can you make your long distance relationship exciting? That’s what I’ll help you with here.
Sit tight and read these 11 long distance date ideas that will keep your heart full and mind happy.
11 Virtual Date Ideas for a Long Distance Relationship
1. Cook Something Together

Once, I was away from my lover Ankit for a few weeks, and he was the one who came up with this idea.
So, we decided to execute the plan in the afternoon, chose the Russian chicken salad dish, saw a fine recipe from the internet, and cooked it while we Facetimed each other. Mine tasted great, but he said his one tasted surreal. Well, no way to prove who cooked better that day. 🤭
You can try this out if you both love cooking. As you prepare the dish, you can engage in endless talks and laughter with your partner, tease them a little, or distract them and finish the cooking before them.
2. Plan a Movie or TV Night
Pick a time of the day when both of you’re free, decide on a film or a show that interests both of you, choose the platform where you’ll be watching it, and it’s all set!
Pause the video midway and discuss it a little with each other.
- How is it going?
- Are you enjoying it?
- What could be the next scene?
Such conversations will keep you and your partner hooked onto the moment.
Plus, make sure to be very specific while selecting the show. If you two have been away from each other for a while, a dose of romantic movies could spice things up. 😉
3. Play Online Games

Playing online games is fun and exciting, and it can give you a good dose of laughter after a hectic day at college or work. Having such funny moments with the love of your life only brightens things up!
My friends, Charlotte and Max, who are currently in a long-distance relationship often pick this kind of date. They usually pick up a game of their choice, Ludo in most cases, and play it for hours. After 2 or 3 consecutive games, they hop on a quick call and then return to play. They play little tournaments, and the winner always teases the loser. 😂
You can also try it, especially if you love playing games online. Won’t it be exciting to defeat your partner in back-to-back games and call them names?
Of course, they’ll be angry with you, and you’ll have to come up with romantic ways to melt that anger.
4. Play Rapid Fire
This one’s the perfect choice, especially if it’s a new relationship.
Get on a call or video chat and play rapid-fire with each other. Give your partner two or three options and ask them to choose one. Or, give them a situation and ask them how they would react in such a scene. This spontaneous question-answer session would give you good details about how your partner thinks of certain situations or people.
On the other hand, if you two have been together since a long time, you can ask them questions based on your favorites and see if they can guess the answers correctly.
This one-on-one game session will be filled with lots of laughter, giggles, and unexpected tantrums. I’m sure you’ll enjoy every bit of it.
5. Read a Book
If you guys are bibliophiles, this has to be your most exciting LDR activity.
Choose a book that both of you would like to read, download the PDF from the internet, join any virtual e-meet platform, share the screen, and start reading together.
You might stop a little in-between and ask each other if they’re finding it interesting or if they want to see any other book. You could discuss the emerging plot and what you think is probable next. It will build the anticipation and keep you both excited for the reading session.
6. Send Surprise Gift and Unwrap Together

So, here’s what you do: Both of you send surprise gifts to each other. Let your partner know you’re sending something, but don’t reveal what’s inside the box.
Now, when both of you receive the respective gifts, Facetime each other and unwrap your presents. Then, see your other half’s reaction.
The happiness, excitement, and joy on their faces will make butterflies flutter in your stomach. You’d also be thrilled to see your gift, and they will enjoy watching you.
I haven’t heard anyone do this yet, but this idea actually felt very creative to me. Would you mind trying it? Let me know in the comments!
7. Try Virtual Shopping
Well, there are two ways to go about it:
- The first one is when both of you (or maybe one of you) visit the store or mall and are on a voice call with each other the entire time. Your partner virtually accompanies you as you see, select, and pick the items. After returning home, send them a short video or a few pictures of whatever you bought. Let them share their views on it.
- The second way could involve getting on a call together, selecting one e-commerce platform, and adding items to the cart. It’s more like purchasing the items together, just from a distance.
Now, when you proceed to the checkout option, you either split the expenses or one of you pays the bill.
It might sound weird the first time, but it can turn out to be a wonderful virtual date! When you will look at those items after some time, you won’t be able to control your smile.
8. Facetime Each Other and Talk

This one is sweet and simple. Mutually decide a time and get on a video call with your love. Sit and talk for hours.
It’s best to do this at the end of a week, as you can share the week-old gossip with your partner, rant about how your days went, laugh at silly jokes, and sometimes pause and immerse into their eyes.
We did this a few times when Ankit and I were in the LDR. And believe me, that was enough to soothe our desperate hearts.
If you feel that Facetime could be difficult because you live with your family and haven’t told them about your lover, consider getting on a regular phone call. Chat, laugh, exchange kisses, and discuss how you will spend the day on your physical meet. And then go to sleep admiring your lover’s lovely voice. 😌
9. Solve a Thriller Together
This could be an intense and thrilling date experience where you and your beloved will be on a mission to solve a mystery.
Pick a game or book where you’re given clues about a crime being committed. It could be a murder, a robbery, a cheating, or anything else. Now, both of you have to connect the dots to find a solution. This will be a new adventure as you will learn a lot about each other’s intelligence and critical thinking abilities.
Thinking of giving it a try? Do it, and don’t forget to come back here and let me know in the comments who did better while solving the case!
10. Taste a Beverage Together

Another lovely facetime date idea is to taste a beverage together. It could be anything: a new wine, a new flavored coffee, or a new tea. So, arrange that drink at your place beforehand. Now, you can get on a call and taste it together.
I did this once with Ankit when we tasted vanilla-flavored coffee from a reputed brand. I liked the taste a lot and even planned to buy a few more packets in the coming days. Unfortunately, Ankit didn’t like the taste and said he would never have it again.
Well well, I better not make this blog my love story narration.
Coming back to you. You can try this out, especially if you guys love tasting new combinations. Try to choose something offbeat that you usually don’t consume daily. That would make your date even more exciting.
11. Plan a Candle Light Dinner
Well, it’s obvious you want your beloved right in front of you when you plan a romantic candlelight dinner. The gazes, soft background music, hand-holding, and tasting the food together make everything so special.
But if you’re not together, you can organize a virtual candlelight dinner and share some unforgettable moments!
Plan a day. Cook, or order some tasty food. Decorate the table with your partner’s favorite candles and wine. Facetime them and start having your dinner.
Look at each other in between, throw flying kisses, and shy at times. Tell them how your food is and ask for their feedback as well. Discuss how you will share the same time when both of you come together. Flirt with each other a bit to keep the passion intense.
You will not only have a fantastic dinner that fills your stomach but also a lovely date night that relaxes your heart.
Wrapping Up
Every moment is beautiful when you’re in love, be it physically together or virtually!
I understand the desperation to be with your beloved every moment, to hold their hands or to wrap them in your arms. But please don’t be discouraged if you can’t do that today.
Wait a little more. The days when you two are physically together aren’t far. Until then, keep up with these amazing facetime date ideas.
Be there for each other mentally and support each other through everything. When you guys finally come together in person, the spark will ignite, and you’ll have the best times of your lives!
Till then, happy e-dating!
