17 Self Date Ideas to Fall in Love with Your Own Company

1. Salon/Spa Time!

If you haven’t had the time to look after yourself in a while, spending some time at the spa or salon could be a great idea. Your skin and hair deserve the attention too, right?

My first solo date was to my local salon, where I got my hair colored. Walking out of the parlor with a new glam look, all confident, is so much worth it and really charges you up and motivate you to get back to daily chores at full pace.

2. Visit Your Favorite Café

There’s nothing better for foodies than to visit the café of their choice. Order your favorite items and engage in the delicacies with a happy heart, smiling face, and lots of selfies.

And please don’t let thoughts like “What if people judge me for going alone” bother you. You eat, you pay your own, and you’re done! No one owes anything to anyone in this world. Soothe your taste buds, pack something for home if you want to, and go back with a satisfied stomach.

3. A Movie Afternoon

Well, this has to be your go-to date option if you’re a movie freak. Book the exclusive balcony tickets to the nearest theater, grab a popcorn bucket, and enjoy your show time.

Don’t want to do a theater party at the cinema? Alright, then set your room up for a cozy movie experience. Charge your laptop, keep your favorite movie ready in your drive, grab some snacks, and you’re all set to have a perfect watch time from the comfort of your bed.

4. Attend a Workshop

Well, if you’d like to try something outside the traditional fun adventure, attending a workshop could be a great idea. It could be on any academic, professional, or creative topic-  marketing techniques, submitting a research paper, earning from home, gardening basics, or anything else.

Attending a virtual or in-person session helps you spend a productive time, and you get to meet new people. Brownie points if the workshop has lunch arrangements. 😁 A date filled with new yet meaningful lessons could be the ultimate break you need from your daily life.

5. Cook Dinner

Have you long been away from the kitchen? Got some time off? Then, best to utilize it cooking some tasty meals. Tune in to some music while you enjoy a super cool cooking time at home.

Any recipes on mind? A jaw-dropping plate of Sushi, some bacon sandwiches, double cheeseburger? If you know the recipe, that’s great! But, if you don’t, there are a lot of YouTube tutorials out there, check them out and be ready with your hand-made magic to leave your taste buds flattered by the taste.

6. Go for a Solo Drive

Love driving but haven’t spent many days behind the steering wheel? Get your car, decide a place, tune in to some soft music, and stroll across the streets. Don’t overspeed or you’ll miss the fun.

Spending a day admiring the picturesque beauty of your city in your own company will bring a lot of positive vibes. Your eyes are tired of looking at the computer screen the entire week; it’s time to give them some pleasure and refreshment.

7. Visit an Amusement Park

If you’re into lots of fun and happy adventures, an amusement park could be a great idea to date yourself. Don’t forget to capture snaps when you take the rides and share them with your friends’ group. Let them be a bit mad at you for having all the fun alone. 😉

This adventurous break might be your need of the hour. When you come back home all tired and with a happy heart, you’re sure to be all set to face the challenging week lying ahead of you.

8. Make a Photo Album

If you’re looking to do something creative with a touch of nostalgia, looking back at some of the most beautiful moments of your life and making a photo collage could be a perfect self date idea.

Gather the pictures you want to paste into the album, visit the local print shop and get them printed, buy an album, and get started with your creativity. You could make it like a mini magazine, where you write down mini notes beside each photograph.

It will be a day filled with smiles, and tears, reminiscing the old times and cherishing every bit of it.

9. Gardening and Greens

One low-key and calming idea could be spending time taking care of the plants in your yard and murmuring your favorite songs. To make things a bit more interesting, shoot little clips of yourself in the garden.

Last month, I had this kind of a date, where I spent around 2 hours in my garden, admiring the flowers and the chirping birds around. Of course, you can’t do this on a bright sunny day, but if it’s a cold and cloudy afternoon, the experience will be worth it!

10. Attend a Live Concert

Is your favorite musician in the city? If yes, what are you waiting for? Get yourself a ticket, put on your best clothes, and listen to your dream voice live.

The scintillating lights, thousands of people cheering around, your favorite singer in the center stage as you listen and enjoy in amazement. What better way to treat yourself on a day off, right?

11. Coffee/Tea Tasting

If you’re a coffee lover, or someone who can’t stay away from two cups of tea every day, then this one will be the perfect solo date idea.

You can try a new coffee shop and explore some new flavors of tea or coffee there. Maybe, you’ll fall in love with a new flavor that could be added to your daily routine for the next few months.

One of my own self dates was tasting a French vanilla coffee. My taste buds still get excited when I remember the taste. (Guess, I’ll have to grab one right now 😅)

12. Solo Time at the Beach

An illustration of a woman in sunglasses and denim shorts relaxing on a beach at sunset, hair flowing in the wind as she sits on a towel by the ocean.

A solo time at the beach amidst the vastness of the ocean and lots of vitamin D might exactly be your type of date.

But if you can’t go for a long vacation in the Maldives, how about setting up your house’s swimming pool to look like a beach holiday?

Grab your favorite drink, sit under the sun, and let the serene atmosphere around you take care of you. Relax, swim, listen to the sound of the water, and enjoy this unique date.

13. Visit a Planetarium

If you get too excited about the moons, stars, and planets, think no more, It’s planetarium time!

Spend some amazing hours watching the planets and learning some lesser-known, yet, the most interesting facts about them. It’s inspiring, productive, learning-packed, and fun at the same time.

Don’t forget to shoot some mini clips on this date; you’ll enjoy scrolling through them in your free time.

14. A Book Café Visit Must Be Worth It

Book cafés are trendy now. I bet you’ll like visiting one if you’re looking to spend some time amidst the books along with some delicious snacks.

I went to a book café on one of my solo dates and spent the time over a chilled latte while reading Agatha Christie’s “The Murder of Roger Ackroyd.” Man, what a day it was!

Try it once. You’re gonna feel so pleased as you leave the café that you’ll keep waiting to be back there.

15. Photography Outing

An illustration of a smiling woman in a yellow shirt taking photographs in nature, wearing a backpack while surrounded by mountains, trees and flowers.

Do you love clicking images? If so, grab your camera and head out for a photographic outing. Visit the most unique places in your city and capture their beauty. (Thank me later in the comments box when likes flood your Instagram after uploading those pictures)

My elder brother is passionate about photography. In his free time, he often prefers this idea to boost his productivity. A photography outing is definitely a lovely idea to hone your hobby and spend some amazing time doing what you like.

16. Visit a Nearby Town/Village

If you have a day or two to spare, you could go all the way to the nearby town or village and spend some time exploring the weather, nature, people, and other habits there. Of course, have your phone ready for taking the snapshots you would love to show to your friends when you go back.

This can be a nice idea for a change of atmosphere. New people, a new place, a new room for a day while learning new facts about the town is going to be an interesting date and would come with a lot of excitement.

17. Decorate Your Room

How about giving your room a new look? Get some wall stickers, bonsai plants, little lamps, and other décor items of your choice.

Now, spend your time revamping the look of your room, fixing the bookshelf, and a new bed sheet, cleaning the glasses, and fitting the plants on your window.

After finishing up, call your parents or a friend to rate the new designer in-house. If you’re a social-media freak, don’t forget to click the all-new look and share it with your followers. They’re gonna love it for sure.

Essential Tips for First-Time Solo Daters to Avoid Awkwardness

I know, the thought of going on your first solo date might make you feel a bit nervous. “What if people stare?” “Won’t it be weird?” “Should I just stay home?” Trust me, I’ve been there, and that feeling is completely normal.

But these tips will help you get past that awkwardness and enjoy your solo date to the fullest:

1. Start Small and Simple

Pick something low-key for your first solo date. Maybe that cute coffee shop around the corner or a quick visit to the local bookstore. Starting with smaller, casual outings helps build your confidence naturally.

2. Go to a Familiar Place

Your first solo date doesn’t have to be at a totally new place. Pick somewhere you’ve been before. Maybe that art gallery you usually visit with friends or your favorite local park.

3. Bring a Comfort Item

Having your favorite book, journal, or laptop along can make you feel more at ease. It gives you something to focus on and makes the whole experience feel more natural.

4. Pick the Right Timing

Choose off-peak hours for your first solo adventure. A quiet weekday afternoon at a café feels way more comfortable than a crowded Saturday evening.

Wrapping Up

And that finishes up our discussion. You never know how much fun a certain thing is until you try it.

Of course, the daily chores, and office/college schedule are keeping you glued to your desk. But hey, you need a break to focus!

Pick on any of these ideas and have a wonderful time. You’ll be thrilled to get back to work/studies with full energy and a fulfilling mind.

Which of these are you gonna try out? Let me know in the comments below!

FAQs

There’s no fixed rule! Some people enjoy weekly solo dates, while others might do it monthly. Listen to your need for alone time and schedule accordingly. Even a couple of hours can be refreshing.

Simply smile and tell them you’re taking some “me time” to recharge. There’s nothing to be embarrassed about. Who knows? You might even inspire them to try solo dating themselves.

Absolutely! Being in a relationship doesn’t mean you have to give up your “me time.” Solo dates are about self-care and personal growth, not replacing your partner. In fact, taking time to recharge and pursue your own interests can make your relationship even stronger!
